Better Travel Planners

The project aims to support the implementation of a co-modal Travel Planner facilitating comparisons of different travel modes. The ambition is to develop a travel planner for the Stockholm region which facilitates people to make better travel mode choices – by foot, bicycle, car and public transport.

Up till now travel planners have been designed in a way so that car trips have been favoured, partly because the time required before and after the drive has not been considered – e.g. time for parking. Information for pedestrians and cyclists has not been included at all. Many unnecessary car trips could be avoided if people would get realistic information of all travel modes.

In order to design a model for a co-modal travel planner the project is initially focused on additional research to generate better knowledge of how the calculation, presentation and comparison of different travel modes could be done.
