The new travel centre in Linköping comprises a bridge across the Stång River, which connects the city’s districts. The vision is to create a station with two entrance ways – one on either side of the Stång River. The aim of doing this is to create a more urban atmosphere in the central districts of the city, featuring new parks and pier space.
Assignment: Linköping travel center
Client: Linköping municipality
Responsible architect: Claes R Janson
More info: Linköping Resecentrum won the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2014 in the category "Infrastructure – Future Projects".
The bridge comprises platforms for arriving and departing trains and is designed as a viaduct, which, along with the station, will serve as an emblematic building. The bridge is meant to be appealing from several different angles with an exterior that is made of perforated steel. Placing the platforms on the bridge also gives arriving travellers a beautiful view of the Stång River and the city centre.
