Rusta’s new distribution centre is one of the largest in Sweden, as big as ten football pitches and containing space for around 150,000 pallets. Sweco was given the task of creating a system for efficient handling of the logistics flow. In the autumn of 2015 the first pallets were delivered from the new facility.
Assignment: Rusta’s new distribution centre
Disciplines: Project Management, Logistics
Size: The warehouse has an area of approx. 65,000 sq.m. and can store around 150,000 pallets.
The centralisation of Rusta’s warehouse operations has created additional space and led to an increased product flow. It supports their expansion plans while at the same time creating the conditions for cost-effective logistics. Sweco Industry has assisted Rusta with project management and specialised support to ensure an optimal end result.
Through careful preparations regarding siting, building size, choice of equipment/IT support and working methods in the new distribution centre, it has been possible to avoid unnecessary extra costs. With its longstanding experience of logistics projects, Sweco Industry has been able to provide guidance and support throughout the project.
The collaboration with Rusta started in 2011 with an analysis of their warehouse operations. The implementation project ran from 2013 to 2015. Sweco was responsible for coordinating the project in procurement of logistics equipment, project management for procurement and installation of the fully automated high-bay warehouse, as well as project management for implementation of the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
