Today’s cities have an unavoidable impact on the environment, but adverse effects can be minimised. Sweco’s water and environmental specialists work with reducing harmful emissions, recycling waste and ensuring access to clean water. We also offer solutions that reduce climate impact and adapt society to a changed climate.
Living close to the water is popular, yet more climate change leads to new challenges. Society must be adapted to cope with heavier rainfall, rising ocean levels and higher floodwaters. Our committed experts help predict what consequences climate change might have, in the form of greater flooding risk, for example.
Sweco has developed a socioeconomic cost-benefit analysis (CBA) model that has successfully been used in a vast number of projects. Using CBA, we can perform a socioeconomic analysis of the planned actions, under which the benefit, in the form of less risk of flooding, is weighed alongside the costs of taking the actions. CBA enables the early identification of the most advantageous actions and thus becomes a crucial decision-making basis for all types of projects.
We also work on charting flooding risks and proposing actions, and developing strategies for the regulation and tapping of lake water. When development extends into the water in coastal areas, we also calculate currents. Our experts produce environmental impact assessments and various types of technical descriptions, as well as designing dams and other flow-regulating structures.
